After researching the tours, we finally landed on the Old Faithful Geyser Basin Tour through Two Top Yellowstone Winter Tours. The day of the tour we woke up to a temperature of 7 degrees fahrenheit (#WeCouldHaveStayedinWIforThis) but, the one-piece insulated snowmobile suits, boots, gloves, face mask and helmets we rented, as well as the heated seats on the snowmobiles, kept us nice and toasty. We recommend buying the insurance, just in case!
Our knowledgeable and funny guide thoroughly explained the “liquid hot magma” (use your best Dr. Evil voice every time you say this!), and how Yellowstone is a super volcano that erupts in 600,000-700,000 year cycles. The last eruption occurred 640,000 years ago. Hmmm, about due for another? #HowFarAwayIsWI
The tour included plenty of stops to view wildlife and the geothermal features.
The tour covers 65 miles roundtrip and includes a stop at Madison Junction, your halfway point to Old Faithful. A warming house, restrooms, snacks and hot beverages are available. When you arrive at Old Faithful you can purchase lunch at the Snow Lodge. We packed a lunch for the tour but do not leave your lunch unattended The resident ravens are very skillful at unzipping bags and helping themselves!
Make sure to visit the gift shop by Old Faithful for souvenirs and to get your National Park Passport stamped, but keep an eye on the time so you do NOT miss Old Faithful erupt.
Whether you’re an avid snowmobiler or a beginner, Two Top Yellowstone Winter Tour will take good care of you. Visiting Yellowstone National Park in the winter is definitely a unique way to see this amazing park!
