WITCHES GULCH WISCONSIN DELLS

Slot canyons in Wisconsin?? Yes!! Wisconsin is not Utah but we proudly boast about two slot canyons. Witches Gulch and Cold Water Canyon are both located in the Water Park Capital of the World, the Wisconsin Dells. Before the water parks became the major attraction of the Dells, it was renown for its natural beauty. H.H. Bennett made the Dells famous with his landscape photograph and if you venture past the waterparks and shops you can enjoy the same beauty he photographed.

Witches Gulch and Cold Water Canyon are currently accessible only by boat: Cold Water Canyon on the Dells Ghost Boat and Witches Gulch on the Upper Dells Boat Tour. The Dells Ghost Boat is an after dark boat tour offered Memorial Day through October. Tickets can be bought online or at one of the many kiosks located throughout the Dells.

The 2-hour Upper Dells Boat Tour includes a stop at Witches Gulch and Stand Rock. Cold Water Canyon was a stop on the boat tour at one time,  but nobody wanted to take "a three hour tour" [cue the Gilligan's Island theme song!]. Your boat tour will travel through the Dell Narrows and past spectacular rock formations and secluded beaches.

You will explore through this stunning canyon carved by water and rain on a boardwalk, and pass fern glens and beautiful whirlpools.

The force of nature has carved remarkable formations such as Witches Falls, Witches Bathtub and Witches Window. Bathroom facilities, concessions and souvenirs are available at the end of Witches Gulch. You will then walk back through the canyon and return to your boat and head to Stand Rock.

At Stand Rock you will meander on the boardwalk to a small amphitheater to view a very well-trained dog jump from the sandstone cliff face to Stand Rock and back. Have your camera ready because this dog is a fast mover!

The Ho Chunk Nation honors Stand Rock at their Casino in the Dells.

The beautiful formations and sandstone make this a tour you don't want to miss when you are in the Dells. So pull the family away from the tourist traps and enjoy the beauty for which the Dells are known.
