Tyranena Brewery: Lake Mills, WI

The two of us really enjoy checking out craft breweries when we are On Adventure. On our way to Madison, WI we stopped at Tyranena (Tie-ruh-knee-nuh) Brewing Company located in Lake Mills, WI. This microbrewery and taproom offers a variety of signature and seasonal brews, with great names such as Bitter Woman IPA, Chief BlackHawk Porter, and Headless Man Amber Ale.

I enjoyed a Lake Millionaire IPA, while Wendy enjoyed The Kissers Monday Night Special. While there is no kitchen on site, they do offer you pretzels with mustard. Yummy! You can also order food to be delivered.

While the beer and snack were satisfying, what really intrigued us was the story on the backside of the drink coaster. We love a good mystery! #WhoKnewBeerWasMysterious

Could it be true that there are stone pyramid-shaped structures on the bottom of Rock Lake? Both of us have lived in Wisconsin for a long time and we have never heard about these alien structures. Okay, they’re likely NOT alien structures, but who doesn’t like a good alien tale? Putting our dreams of aliens in Wisconsin aside, we decided some investigating had to be done.

First stop Tyranena (remember how to pronounce it?) Park by Rock Lake. If you look closely at the sign you will notice that pyramids are used on the sign. INTERESTING INDEED

Second stop the internet. Fact: Aztalan State Park is located off of I-94W not too far from Rock Lake. The park includes large earthen pyramid-shaped mounds. Is it possible that the indigenous people also built the structures rumored to be at the bottom of the lake? The best Blog on the subject that I found is by JaySea Archaeology - give it a read to find out if the mystery is fact or fiction!

So, for a good time on your trip to Madison to see a Badger game, or to go to the farmer’s market on the square, or to hang out on State Street, stop by Tyranena to enjoy a beer and some pretzels (don’t forget the mustard!), check out some pretty cool swag (maybe even buy some!) and come up with your own theories. Whatever theories emerge are sure to get better with each unique brew.
