CAVE POINT COUNTY PARK DOOR COUNTY, WI

During our weekend getaway to Door County, WI we stopped at Cave Point County Park and were treated to spectacular frozen cliffs and ice-covered foliage! Cave Point County Park is located off of State Highway 57, right next to Whitefish Dunes State Park. To get there take State Highway 57 northeast from Sturgeon Bay roughly 10 miles, at Clark Lake Rd turn right and then go approximately 3.5 miles and look for the sign to Cave Point.  When you hit the fork in the road, Whitefish Dunes State Park will be to the right and Cave Point will be straight ahead. A fee is not required to visit or park at this gem. Restrooms are also available to the visitors.

Door County, known as the "Cape Cod of the Midwest," is famous for its beautiful scenery, accommodations, restaurants and shopping. The towns of Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim, Baileys Harbor and Sturgeon Bay have plenty of these amenities.

During the summer make reservations for an iconic fish boil. If you visit during the winter some of these establishments will be closed for the season but, please don't let this stop you from visiting!

This frozen wonderland was the result of strong winds the day before we visited.

Door County has 298 miles of stunning shoreline. The Door Peninsula is about 80 miles long and is home to five State Parks: Peninsula State Park, Potawatomi State Park, Newport State Park, Rock Island State Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. There are also several State Natural Areas and 19 beautiful County Parks to visit.

There are stunning vantage points everywhere in Door County. Lake Michigan is to the north and east and the Bay of Green Bay is to the West. Door County is a beautiful place to visit year round, but is definitely less crowded in the winter.

The limestone outcroppings of the Niagara Escarpment are visible throughout the peninsula but are more remarkable on the west side. Dunes make up the east side and large dunes can be seen at Whitefish Dunes State Park. We suggest taking the time to see both sides and, if you have time, visit Washington Island off the tip of the peninsula. Check out our Washington Island Blog Post.

If you like lighthouses, Door County has 11 for you to check out. You can visit the Cana Island Lighthouse when the water level is low by walking across the causeway. When the water level is high or if you don't want to get your feet wet you can take the wagon train across.

Door County is not only known for its beautiful scenery but for its orchards of sweet tart Montmorency Cherries as well. When you visit, you will be able to get your fill of yummy cherry pies, jams, and jellies!

If Craft Breweries, Wineries and Distilleries are your thing Door County has those too. We especially like the beers brewed at Bridge Up Brewing Company and Starboard Brewing Company.

Cheese...have I mentioned cheese? Wisconsin is know for its cheese and Door County has several cheese markets for you to load up on your favorites or try something new.

Door County gets its name from the strait between the Door Peninsula and Washington Island. Death's Door is the name of the strait and is home to many shipwrecks.

Absolutely Spectacular

When exploring this stunning area with the kiddos, please hold their hand as the walk is very slippery in spots. We even found ourselves calling each other back from the slippery edges!

Spectacular scenery every season...but we prefer winter!

In the summer visit this stunning shoreline by kayak. There are outfitters available or do it on your own, but pick a calm day and check the weather before heading out.
